Bull City Burger and Brewery is a locally owned, independent restaurant located at 107 East Parrish Street in downtown Durham, NC. We opened on March 25, 2011. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner with approximately 90 seats inside plus 35 seats of outside patio dining. We offer family friendly dining with a children’s play area, as well as a private meeting room for business gatherings and presentations or private events, all within full view of our own brewery.

The ten things you need to know about us: Ten Things

The restaurant is very much “farm-to-fork,” working closely with North Carolina pasture raised beef farmers supplying beef with no hormones added and antibiotic-free meat that we grind daily to make our hamburgers and all-beef hotdogs.  We work with other farmers growing vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers for pickles, and lettuce. The menu is streamlined with most items produced on-site including house made buns, sauerkraut and bacon. We use no artificial sweeteners, no high fructose corn syrup, and no hydrogenated oils.  We like to say we are like fine dining in a burger joint.  We make the mustard, the slaw, the pickles, the mayo, the aioli, the hotdogs, the relish, the...

We are also a full scale working brewery and brew our own beer.  We have up to eight beers on-tap at any given time creating fresh ales and lagers rotating seasonally throughout the year. We use just malt, hops, yeast and water to craft our beer, leaving out adjuncts and additives. We take wine seriously and feature farmer made, estate grown and bottled wines from around the world, which are served on-tap via the Enomatic self-serve wine-dispensing machine.

Central to Bull City Burger and Brewery’s core values is sustainability; our attempt is to operate while leaving the smallest energy footprint possible.  Our long term goal is to become part of a cycle of energy with the restaurant playing an integral role in the farms we source. Grain left over from the brewing process feeds locally farmed pigs and chickens that provide pork bellies to make our bacon and eggs for our over easy burger, and the fryer oil becomes bio-diesel to fuel vehicles. We are also recycling 99.9% of our food waste to feed pigs on a local farm, putting nearly zero food waste into landfills.

Guys and Gals,

I really wanted to give y'all some positive feedback on my experience there yesterday and I didn't see any email except this one off your website.  So I apologize for sending to this email, but I really wanted someone to know how knocked out I was at the quality your restaurant had to offer.  I'm so highly impressed with the experience, and I haven't ever done this, but I really am going to try to spread the word about your place.  The hamburger was without a doubt excellence and a flavor in the meat that I don't think I've ever experienced.  My wife said it was the best veggie burger she's ever tasted also and actually she said the same about mine because she tried a bite.  But I also have to say that the dirty fries were, by far, the best fries I have ever tasted in my life!  I'm not kidding.  I don't know what you did to them, but it was perfect.  Never thought fries could leave such and impression, but they did.  And finally the beer was top notch too.  I don't drink beer much but I had to try it and was very impressed.  Overall, I hope with all my heart that you all last forever there as it would be a shame for something as high quality as you have created to not make it because of financial difficulty, but again, I'll do my little part to spread the word and try to send business your way.

Stay true. You have made something very special there, and I wish the best for you all.

Cheers,

Greg
